SLF Visit to Pakistan

Last week our team spent a valuable five days in Pakistan, a trip that centred around a jointly hosted “Symposium of Traceability in the Leather Supply Chain” with WWF – Pakistan. The symposium was held as an official event of the Pakistan Mega Leather Show, held in Lahore on 24th to 26th January, organised by the Pakistan Leather Association. The purpose of the event was to present the work being conducted under the The SMEP Programme by both the Leathertrace Bangladesh project and the @Tracemyleather.com project in Pakistan. Both projects are working simultaneously on e-traceability solutions that work for informal farming geographies, along with other workstreams for environmental impact analysis, enhancing sustainability and circularity, and policy recommendations. You can read more about the SMEP Programme in our Working Together Page here: SMEP LeatherTrace Project

Our team also visited some of our partner tanneries HSA (Pvt.) Ltd. (Leather Division), Royal Leather and Siddiq Leather Works. The management at all three companies very generously gave up their time to welcome us and show us their facilities and we were impressed with the range of new technologies being adopted and the continual improvement taking place.

The team also had the opportunity to meet the Directors of WWF – Pakistan where discussions were held around the importance of the leather sector and how we can work together more in the future. A visit to the AVC-Asian Verification And Consulting (Private) Limited offices and laboratory rounded off the visits and more valuable discussions took place about enhancing SLF’s presence in Pakistan.

Thank you to everyone to made the trip possible.
